 TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Newly thrown stoneware

Stoneware forms are either thrown on a wheel or slab built.  The clay I use is from St Amand en Puisaye.  The pieces are fired twice in an oxidising electric kiln.  The first firing is to 1000c and the second time, after glazing to 1250c.  The firings take approximately 12 hours each.  Wax resist, glazes and oxides are painted, sprayed and dipped on to create a variety of effects which are often influenced by the colours and textures found in rural landscapes.

Earthenware pieces are slip cast using liquid clay in plaster of paris moulds.  They are also fired twice.  The first time to 1000c, then after being dipped,  painted or sprayed with glaze they are fired for the second time to 1060c.  The earthenware glazes tend to be brighter and more shiny.

MARK JUDSON CÉRAMIQUE INFORMATIONS TECHNIQUES Les pièces sont  fabriquées soit sur un tour soit sur une dalle. L’argile que j’utilise vient de St Amand en Puisaye. Les pièces sont cuites deux fois dans un four à céramique électrique oxydant. La première cuisson se fait à 1000°C et la seconde, après l’émaillage,  à 1250°C. Les cuissons durent environ 12 heures chacune. Différentes matières et techniques sont utilisées pour obtenir des effets variés (application au pinceau, pulvérisation, émaillage, trempage des pièces  dans des cires,  ou oxydes… ) Les couleurs et textures observées dans les paysages naturels en sont l’inspiration. Les  poteries sont coulées à l’état liquide dans des moules en plâtre de Paris. Elles sont aussi cuites deux fois. La première fois à 1000°C , puis, après avoir été peintes au pinceau, trempées dans l’émail ou vaporisées, elles sont cuites une deuxième fois à 1060°C.
